From zero to one: SEO Case Story for a Local Business
Local SEO rarely moves because of one heroic change. It moves when many correct choices start talking to each other.
Over the past months, I worked on SEO for Dr. Ana Luiza Rocha, a colorectal clinic in Curitiba. The goal was never vanity ranking. The goal was to make the site easier to trust, easier to understand, and easier to find for people already searching for care.
That changed the way we operated: less obsession with isolated tricks, more discipline around technical structure, useful content, and weekly feedback loops.
The Starting Point
This was not a large brand with years of accumulated authority or a large marketing machine. It was a focused in-house effort with two fronts moving together: clinical authority and technical execution.
Search intent was split in two directions. One side was local and transactional: people searching for specialists, treatments, and city-qualified terms in Curitiba. The other was informational: symptoms, common questions, and treatment decisions. If the site could not serve both journeys, growth would stall at the homepage.
The Leverage Points
The biggest gains came from stacking fundamentals, not chasing novelty.
- Technical base: route-level metadata, canonical control, sitemap discipline, and cleaner boundaries between homepage, treatment pages, and blog.
- Semantic clarity: structured data aligned with what was actually visible, including physician, organization, article, and FAQ context when relevant.
- Intent-led content: pages built around real search behavior, especially long-tail and local variations, instead of generic copy.
- Performance and UX: reducing friction so users and crawlers could move through the site without noise.
- Weekly tracking: turning SEO from opinion into a rhythm of signal, decision, and iteration.
What the Signals Said
Between October 2025 and March 2026, rankings improved across meaningful terms:
procto curitiba: 9 -> 1laser colorectal surgery: 6 -> 1anal bleeding curitiba: not ranking -> 2hemorrhoid treatment without surgery curitiba: not ranking -> 1
In a manual check, "coloproctologia curitiba" also appeared at #1 organic. Manual checks never replace tracking tools, but they are useful when dashboard movement starts showing up in real search behavior.
Another relevant signal: the site started appearing in AI-powered search answers for local specialist queries. The labels may vary (AEO, GEO, SEO for AI), but the mechanism felt familiar: clean structure, explicit entities, local relevance, and content that actually answers intent.
Closing: Build Systems, Not Spikes
This project reinforced a simple truth. Local SEO is less like a hack and more like urban planning. You do not win by painting one building; you win by improving the whole street.
When technical foundations, semantic clarity, focused content, and measurement move together, results compound. First quietly, then obviously.
